On April 30, 2018, President Xi Jinping's Special Envoy, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met with Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Abu Dhabi.

Yang Jiechi conveyed to Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the warm greetings from President Xi Jinping to President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Crown Prince himself. Yang Jiechi expressed that attaching high importance to its relations with the UAE, China has always regarded the UAE as a priority in its diplomacy towards the Middle East. At present, both countries have enjoyed sound development in bilateral relations, deepened political mutual trust and achieved remarkable cooperation outcomes. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the UAE, further enhance practical cooperation in various fields, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and elevate the level of strategic partnership, so as to promote China-UAE relations for greater development in the new period.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China stands ready to integrate the "Belt and Road" initiative with the development strategies of the UAE. It is believed that under the care and promotion of leaders of both countries, China-UAE cooperation will surely be further strengthened in the process of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and benefit the two peoples and people in the region.

Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan asked Yang Jiechi to convey the sincere greetings from President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as well as himself to President Xi Jinping, and expressed that the UAE admires China's development and progress, and cherishes its special friendly relations with China. The UAE stands ready to, together with China, enhance communication and coordination, well implement the consensus reached by leaders of both countries, and deepen all-round cooperation, so as to promote UAE-China relations for development at higher levels.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE.
