Yang Jiechi Meets with President of University of Pennsylvania Amy Gutmann and Her Delegation

On September 11, 2015, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met in Beijing with President of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) Amy Gutmann and heads of UPenn's School of Medicine, School of Nursing and Graduate School of Education.

Yang Jiechi said that President Xi Jinping will soon pay a state visit to the US at the invitation of President Barack Obama, which is of great significance to further promoting the China-US relations and expanding practical cooperation in various areas. The UPenn has actively carried out cooperation with China for years, and he hoped that the UPenn will continue its efforts to make new contribution to the people-to-people and educational exchanges and cooperation between China and the US.

Amy Gutmann said that the US-China relations are of great significance to the peace and prosperity of the two countries, the region and the world. Institutions of higher education in the US, including the UPenn, and the educational circle are looking forward to President Xi Jinping's visit to the US. All the 12 schools of the UPenn have established cooperative relations with China, and the UPenn will further strengthen exchanges with China in the future and thus play a positive role in the development of the bilateral relations.
