Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Assistant to the President for National Security Susan Rice of US

On August 28, 2015, State Councilor Yang Jiechi held talks with Assistant to the President for National Security Susan Rice of the US in Beijing.

Yang Jiechi said that President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the US next month at the invitation of President Barack Obama, which is of great significance to the development of the China-US relations and international situation. China is willing to work with the US to make sound preparations, accumulate more achievements and create a good atmosphere to ensure the visit a full success, so as to constantly promote the new model of major-country relationship between China and the US for new progress and better benefit the two peoples and people across the world.

Yang Jiechi said that with the joint efforts of both sides, the China-US relations have maintained a sound development momentum on the whole in the recent years. The two sides have enjoyed frequent and close high-level exchanges, continuously pushed forward practical cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, investment, energy, science, technology, environmental protection, public health, militaries, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and law enforcement, and maintained close communication and coordination on major global issues and hot-spot issues in relevant regions such as climate change and disease control and prevention. In the current complex and ever-changing international situation, there are more extensive areas that China and the US should and can cooperate with each other. The two sides shall continue to work together for the building of the new model of major-country relationship between China and the US, respect and accommodate each other's core interests and major concerns, further expand practical cooperation at the bilateral, regional and global levels, achieve active exchanges in the Asia-Pacific region, and manage and control differences and sensitive issues in an constructive way to constantly promote the China-US relations for new achievements.

Susan Rice said that President Barack Obama looks forward to President Xi Jinping's state visit to the US and an in-depth exchange of views with President Xi Jinping on the bilateral relations and major international issues. The US is making active preparations. The US is willing to increase efforts with China to ensure a complete success and fruitful results of the visit for the benefits of the two peoples and the international community.

Susan Rice said that both with great influence in the world, the US and China share broad common interests. President Barack Obama attaches great importance to the US-China relations, stays committed to strengthening and deepening the important bilateral relations, and pushes US-China cooperation for more positive results. The US is willing to join efforts with China to further expand the fields of cooperation and properly handle the differences between the two countries. The US supports a prosperous, developing and stable China to play an active role in the Asia-Pacific and international affairs.

Both sides agreed that the two countries should enhance cooperation in fields such as development aid, food security, marine affairs, UN peace-keeping and wildlife protection.

Both sides also exchanged views on international, regional and other topics of common interest.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Director of the Office of the Central Leading Group for Financial and Economic Affairs Liu He also met with Susan Rice respectively.
