On September 8, 2015, State Councilor Yang Jiechi gave a joint interview to CCTV News and China Daily in Beijing, mainly introducing the great significance, main purposes and expected outcomes of President Xi Jinping's upcoming state visit to the US and attendance at the series of summits marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN. Yang Jiechi said that President Xi Jinping's visit will further strengthen the friendship between peoples of China and the US, expand bilateral practical cooperation in various fields and promote the China-US relations for greater progress. During his attendance at the UN summits, President Xi Jinping will comprehensively expound China's policies and propositions on the international order and relations, and fully display China's great contributions to the cause of world peace and development.

Yang Jiechi also illustrated China's views and propositions on topics such as promoting the construction of the new model of major-country relationship between China and the US, as well as interaction in the Asia-Pacific region, economic and trade cooperation, military exchanges and people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
