Li Keqiang Meets with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Lao President Choummaly Sayasone

On the afternoon of September 1, 2015, Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Premier of the State Council, met at the Great Hall of the People with Choummaly Sayasone, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos who was visiting China to attend the commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Laos enjoy profound traditional friendship, similar development paths and extensive common interests. General Secretary Xi Jinping has held fruitful talks with you, significantly boosting the development of relations between the two parties and two countries. China stands ready to work with Laos to dovetail development strategies, push forward the construction of connectivity infrastructure such as railway and highway, actively conduct cooperation of production capacity in fields like energy and mining and agriculture, and promote prosperity and stability in the border areas of the two countries, so as to continuously yield new achievements in terms of China-Laos relations and practical cooperation.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is the priority of China's diplomacy toward its neighbors. Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations and Laos will take the rotating chair of ASEAN. The Chinese side is willing to enhance communication and coordination with Laos and other ASEAN countries, deepen convergence of interests and promote regional cooperation so as to lift China-ASEAN relations up to a new height and jointly safeguard peace, stability and prosperity of East Asia.

Choummaly Sayasone expressed that with the joint efforts of leaders of the two parties and two countries, the Laos-China all-round strategic partnership of cooperation has made substantial progress. Laos stands ready to work with China to expedite cooperation on major projects such as the Laos-China railway and unceasingly tap bilateral cooperation potential. Laos highly appreciates China's valuable support to ASEAN development and stands ready to continue promoting ASEAN-China relations with unremitting efforts.
