On July 29, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abedelkader Messahel of Algeria.

Wang Yi noted that Algeria is an important country in Africa and the Arab world. China and Algeria enjoy profound traditional friendship. Since the two countries established comprehensive strategic partnership, both sides have strengthened mutual understanding and mutual support on issues related to each other's core interests and major concerns, and constantly pushed bilateral practical cooperation in infrastructure and other major strategic projects, as well as the processing industry for new progress. China is willing to, together with Algeria, enhance strategic coordination and cooperation within frameworks of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF), so as to together push China-Africa and China-Arab relations for further development.

Abedelkader Messahel said that China is the most trustworthy partner of Algeria. Algeria is ready to deepen cooperation with China in politics, security, infrastructure, aviation, science and technology and other fields, so as to comprehensively lift the level of bilateral cooperation. Algeria is willing to join efforts with China to develop Africa-China and Arab-China relations by earnestly implementing the outcomes from the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit and the 7th CASCF Ministerial Meeting.
