Wang Yi: China Supports the UN to Play an Important Role

On September 3, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki-moon, who was in China to attend the commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Wang Yi expressed that as this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN, the UN will hold a series of summits for its 70th birthday to jointly discuss the major plan for world peace and development. The Chinese side stands ready to work with the UN to seek closer cooperation thus ensure the success of the summits. The Chinese side will firmly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, support the UN to play an important role in international affairs, and work with all parties to actively implement the post-2015 development agenda, so as to make contributions to world peace and development.

Ban Ki-moon expressed that the UN highly appreciates China’s achievements in economy and society as well as its contributions to the cause of world peace and development, and eagerly expects China to play a bigger role in dealing with the various common challenges facing the globe.
