Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of East Timor

On September 2, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Hernâni Coelho of East Timor, who was accompanying President of East Timor to attend the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War in China.

Wang Yi expressed that China and East Timor treat each other equally, coexist in friendship, and enjoy a sound development in bilateral relations. As East Timor is an important country along the Maritime Silk Road, the Chinese side wishes to strengthen cooperation with East Timor in various fields to jointly build the 21st-Centrury Maritime Silk Road and help East Timor achieve a faster development.

Hernâni Coelho appreciated that China invited East Timor to attend the commemorations in China, and paid high tribute to the huge sacrifice of the Chinese people in the World War II. He said that the initiative of joint building of the “Belt and Road” by the Chinese side highly accords with East Timor’s development strategies. He welcomed China to participate more in the economic and social construction of East Timor.
