On April 15, 2016, President Xi Jinping met at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, China and Australia maintain a momentum of positive development in bilateral relations and increasingly closer exchanges and cooperation in various fields. China attaches great importance to its relations with Australia, and is ready to, together with Australia, better dock development strategies of both sides, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and jointly make a bigger "cake" of shared interests in the principle of mutual trust and mutual benefit, so as to better benefit the Chinese and Australian people.

Xi Jinping stressed that China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership is full of strong vitality, which serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples and is also beneficial to peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region. The two sides should keep bilateral relations on the right track, and respect each other's core interests and major concerns, so as to ensure the continuous, sound and stable development of China-Australia relations. It is hoped that both sides could align China's Belt and Road initiative with the “Northern Development” plan of Australia, as well as promote the synergy between China's innovation-driven development strategy and Australia's National Innovation and Science Agenda. The two sides should also do a good job in implementing the China-Australia free trade agreement, explore more projects related to bilateral practical cooperation, and advance exchanges and cooperation in the areas of judiciary, law enforcement and defense. China-Australia friendship is rooted in the two peoples, and the two sides should take more measures in facilitating visa application process and other areas, and promote bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation in tourism, education and local affairs. China values Australia's role in international and regional affairs, and is willing to enhance cooperation with Australia within such mechanisms as G20, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the East Asia Summit, as well as the framework of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), so as to jointly make contributions for regional connectivity.

Malcolm Turnbull said that President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Australia in 2014 has greatly boosted the development of bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, and the Australian people talked a lot about it up to now. Australia is confident in China's economic prospect and its positive impact on the global economy, and hopes to further forge a closer relationship with China, speed up the docking of development strategies of both countries and deepen bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, innovation and other sectors. Australia is ready to enhance communication and coordination with China in international and regional affairs. He looks forward to attending the G20 Hangzhou Summit in China.
