Taiwan Leader's Transit Visit to U.S. Opposed
2001-05-15 00:00

China firmly opposes any country, including the United States, permitting the leader of the Taiwan authorities to conduct a transit visit under any excuse, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Sun Yuxi on May 15 in Beijing.

Sun said that the Chinese Government has expressed through diplomatic channels its strong resentment and opposition to the U.S. Government permitting such a transit visit by the Taiwan authority leader.  China hopes that the United States will act in accordance with the principles enshrined in concerned bilateral documents, and will not interfere in China’s internal affairs regarding the Taiwan issue.
