On September 16, 2020 local time, President Khaltmaa Battulga of Mongolia met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Ulaanbaatar.
Khaltmaa Battulga asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. Khaltmaa Battulga expressed, the Mongolian side attaches great importance to Mongolia-China relations and is willing to work hand in hand with the Chinese side to constantly enrich Mongolia-China comprehensive strategic partnership. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, the two countries have been supporting and helping each other in the fight against the virus. I paid a special visit to China to express my support in person. The economic and trade cooperation between Mongolia and China has been developing smoothly with great potential untapped. The Mongolian side will deepen cooperation with the Chinese side at all fronts and continue to expand bilateral trade by increasing exports of quality agricultural and livestock products and coals to China, strengthening cooperation at border ports and in cross-border road and rail transportation, and facilitating bilateral trade, economic and personnel exchanges. The Mongolian side is committed to working with the Chinese side to strengthen Mongolia-China-Russia cooperation and maintain regional prosperity, peace, and stability together.
Wang Yi first conveyed President Xi Jinping’s best wishes to Khaltmaa Battulga. He said, since the outbreak of the epidemic, China and Mongolia have helped each other and overcome difficulties together, which vividly demonstrates the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind. In February this year, in particular, Mr. President visited China at the critical time of epidemic prevention and control in China, and offered 30,000 sheep as a token of support, which tells a good story of the China-Mongolia friendship. The Chinese side has also been actively supporting the Mongolian side with medical materials and sharing prevention and treatment experience as well as information without reservation.
Wang Yi said, as the epidemic is still spreading across the world, China and Mongolia, as friendly neighbors, should strengthen cooperation in regular epidemic prevention and control to protect the health of the two peoples and strive to build a global community of health for all. Both sides should step up post-epidemic cooperation to make up for the time loss due to COVID-19. China’s huge market will provide an important opportunity for Mongolia’s development. China is willing to import more agricultural and livestock products as well as energy products that meet the needs of its domestic market, strengthen cooperation at border ports and in cross-border transportation of goods, discuss the signing of a free trade agreement at an early date, and promote the continuous growth of bilateral trade. China-Mongolia-Russia cooperation is mutually beneficial among neighboring countries. We need to well implement the construction of the China-Mongolia-Russia-Economic Corridor and advance important cooperation projects in an orderly manner.
Wang Yi stressed, China and Mongolia are neighbors and will always be good friends. This is the general direction that we should uphold. The two countries need to cement political mutual trust and consolidate the political foundation of the China-Mongolia relations so as to ensure long-term, healthy and stable development of the bilateral relations.
