State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Had a Phone Call with French President's Foreign Policy Advisor Emmanuel Bonne
2020-02-08

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with French President's Foreign Policy Advisor Emmanuel Bonne on the phone on 7 February.

Bonne extended France's solidarity and support for China's fight against the novel coronavirus outbreak and admiration for China's calmness, wisdom and capacity in effectively bringing the epidemic under control in such a short time. He conveyed France's readiness for experience-sharing and cooperation to help with the outbreak response in China, and expressed full confidence in China's ability to win this battle.

Wang expressed appreciation for France's solidarity and support. He stressed that the Chinese people are united as one to fight the outbreak. Out of a strong sense of responsibility for its own people and for the rest of the world, China has taken the most rigorous control measures. The various measures are producing results: cured cases have surpassed fatal ones by a significant margin and the increase of suspected cases has slowed down. The Chinese nation never succumbs to any difficulty or challenge. We have fully confident and able to prevail over the epidemic.

Wang pointed out that the epidemic is a common challenge to the humankind. China will continue to share information and enhance cooperation with the rest of the international community in the spirit of openness and transparency. We have no intention to understate the challenge of the outbreak. That said, we hope that all countries will respect WHO's professional recommendations of not imposing travel or trade restrictions. We hope that France will stick to its objective and impartial position and work with China to promote the existing exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides also discussed bilateral exchanges and cooperation to be carried out in the next phase, and agreed to maintain close communication, interact at all levels, and deepen practical cooperation. The two sides will act on the agreement between the two Presidents and work for greater progress in bilateral relations at a higher level.
