Yang Jiechi Meets with Foreign Minister Simeon Oyono Esono Angue of Equatorial Guinea

On June 25, 2019, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met with Foreign Minister Simeon Oyono Esono Angue of Equatorial Guinea in Beijing.

Yang Jiechi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Equatorial Guinea 49 years ago, China has always regarded Equatorial Guinea as a sincere friend and reliable strategic partner. The two sides should continue to intensify exchanges in all areas and at all levels and firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns. We should ensure that more outcomes of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the results of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation are implemented in Equatorial Guinea. China firmly supports Africa in seeking strength through unity and regional economic integration. We support Equatorial Guinea in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests and are ready to work with Equatorial Guinea to raise the level of security cooperation. The two sides should cement communication and coordination within the United Nations (UN) and other multilateral frameworks and continue to support each other.

Simeon Oyono Esono Angue expressed warm congratulations to the Chinese candidate Qu Dongyu on his election as Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. As a true partner and brother of Equatorial Guinea, China has long provided valuable assistance for the development of Equatorial Guinea and Africa, and China's development experience has also provided important reference. Africa is ready to stand with China for common development. Equatorial Guinea firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is ready to deepen practical cooperation with the Chinese side and continue to firmly support each other in multilateral affairs.
