President Vladimir Putin of Russia Meets with Wang Yi
2019-05-14

On May 13, 2019 local time, President Vladimir Putin of Russia met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Sochi.

Vladimir Putin asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping, and warmly congratulated China on the success of the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF). Vladimir Putin said that the Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination is the priority of Russia's diplomacy. Last month, I had a successful meeting with President Xi Jinping and we reached important consensus on promoting integration cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the Belt and Road Initiative. We also exchanged in-depth views on major international and regional issues, further consolidating strategic and political mutual trust between Russia and China. I earnestly expect President Xi Jinping's state visit to Russia in June, and the joint celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Russia-China diplomatic relations.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's good wishes to Vladimir Putin and spoke highly of President Vladimir Putin's significant contributions to the success of the second BRF. Wang Yi noted that the important meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin in Beijing made a good start for the joint celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic relations. The bilateral relations have reached their highest level in history under the strategic leadership and direction of the two heads of state. During my visit to Russia, I made a detailed schedule and adequate political preparations with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for President Xi Jinping's state visit to Russia in June. It is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, President Xi Jinping's state visit to Russia will certainly elevate bilateral relations to a new high and usher in a new era of comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between China and Russia.

Both sides had in-depth exchanges of views on recent major international and regional hotspot issues.

During the visit, Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia and jointly met the press.
