|Wang Yi Accepts the Letter of Appointment Presented by First African Union (AU) Representative to China Rahamtalla Mohamed Osman Elnor|
On December 13, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the first African Union (AU) Representative to China Rahamtalla Mohamed Osman Elnor and accepted his Letter of Appointment.
Wang Yi welcomed Rahamtalla Mohamed Osman Elnor to assume his new post in China and expressed that as one of the largest organizations comprising developing countries, the AU is a banner of unity, self-reliance and the integration process of Africa. In September this year, the AU officially established its representative office in China, which reflects the spirit of unity and cooperation between China and the AU as well as the close and friendly relations of the two sides. As the joint undertaking of the Belt and Road Initiative is consistent with the AU Agenda 2063, the two sides should make joint efforts to tap into cooperation potential and expand cooperation fields through the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the AU can play a unique role in this process. It is hoped that the AU and its representative office in China can play a positive role in promoting China-Africa overall cooperation and the mechanism of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
Rahamtalla Mohamed Osman Elnor expressed that he is honored to serve as the first AU Representative to China. The friendship between Africa and China enjoys a long history and developing strong relations with China is the consensus of all African countries. With the success of the FOCAC Beijing Summit in 2018, the two sides have upgraded China-Africa relations and achieved mutual benefit and win-win results. The AU supports the Belt and Road Initiative of the Chinese side, as the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative completely conforms to the development goals and interests of Africa. The AU representative office in China will spare no efforts to play a positive role in promoting Africa-China cooperation.
