Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks at Request with Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian of France

On November 27, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was accompanying President Xi Jinping for his visit to Spain, held telephone talks at request with Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian of France in Madrid.

Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping will meet with President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 Buenos Aires Summit, which will be of great significance for promoting the development of China-France relations in the next phase. The Chinese side is willing to enhance strategic coordination with the French side to ensure positive outcomes of the G20 Summit.

Jean-Yves Le Drian noted that President Emmanuel Macron looks forward to meeting with President Xi Jinping in Buenos Aires. Coping with climate change is one of the important topics of the G20 Summit this year. France and China should make joint efforts to promote the Summit to utter a unanimous voice in this regard, and inject new impetus into the success of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Wang Yi stressed that it is fairly necessary for China and France, as comprehensive strategic partners, to enhance strategic communication on major international issues including the G20 Summit agenda. Climate change is a common challenge facing the international community and concerns the future of human development. We appreciate the French side's positive role in the area of coping with climate change and stand ready to work together with various parties including the French side to send a positive message during the G20 Summit and jointly promote the success of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
