On September 20, 2018, while attending a promotion event presenting Shandong Province held by the Foreign Ministry, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi explicitly supported the Pyongyang Joint Declaration of September signed by the leaders of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK).
Wang Yi said that yesterday, good news came from the Korean Peninsula across the Shandong Peninsula. Chairman Kim Jong-un and President Moon Jae-in signed the Pyongyang Joint Declaration of September. This is the blessing of all the people on the Peninsula and the wish of the people of all countries, including China. The Chinese side warmly congratulates on and firmly supports it.
Wang Yi expressed that the DPRK-ROK relations have achieved comprehensive improvement and development and both DPRK and the ROK work together to make the Peninsula a peaceful homeland free of nuclear weapons and military threats. This is the best deed and the greatest achievement. All parties should take actions and make joint efforts towards this goal.
Wang Yi stated this year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Armistice Agreement. Peace is long overdue and we must not let this rare opportunity of peace slip away again.
