2018-08-25

On August 24, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a group meeting in Ulaangom with the governors of five western provinces of Mongolia and held a discussion on how to strengthen effective local-level exchanges and cooperation between China and Mongolia.

Wang Yi expressed that the five western provinces of Mongolia border or are adjacent to China. In recent years, their cooperation with the Chinese side, especially with the Xinjiang region of China, has been increasingly deepened with remarkable results. The Chinese side welcomes the five provinces to board the express train of China's development and share China's development opportunities. Recently, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Mongolia has entered the fast lane, and the two sides are accelerating the integration and implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Development Road Initiative. Xinjiang is in the core area of the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and is also the key area for China to promote the strategy of large-scale development of the western region. The five western provinces of Mongolia can fully seize the above opportunities and deepen cooperation with the Chinese side in an all-round manner, especially with the Xinjiang region of China, to facilitate their own development and benefit the local people. The Chinese side will also continue encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest more and start more businesses in the five provinces, promote the improvement of people's livelihood in the five provinces, and make China-Mongolia comprehensive strategic partnership bring more and better benefits to the general public.

The Governors of the five provinces of Mongolia, namely, Uvs Province, Khovd Province, Bayan-Ulgii Province, Zavkhan Province and Govi-Altai Province, introduced their respective exchange situations with the Chinese side, expressed their strong willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and emphasized that the five western provinces of Mongolia actively support the comprehensive strategic partnership between Mongolia and China, and that the cooperation between the five provinces and the Chinese side, especially the cooperation with the Xinjiang region of China, has progressed rapidly with fruitful results over the years. The five provinces admire China's development achievements and support the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping. They hope to further deepen cooperation with the Chinese side in such fields as agriculture, animal husbandry, processing industry, tourism, border trade, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and infrastructure construction by actively participating in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, so as to provide impetus for the increasingly in-depth development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Damdin Tsogtbaatar of Mongolia and Finance Minister Ch. Khurelbaatar of Mongolia, and Vice Chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Zhao Qing of China as well as others attended the meeting and discussion.
