Wang Yi Meets with Chairman of the Senate Sadiq Sanjrani of Pakistan

On August 16, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Chairman of the Senate Sadiq Sanjrani of Pakistan who led a delegation of senators from multiple parties to visit China.

Wang Yi expressed that Pakistan has just held a successful general election. It is believed that under the leadership of the new government, Pakistan will score new achievements in the cause of its national construction. China-Pakistan relations are rock-firm and brimming with new vitality as time goes by. The all-weather friendship between the two countries enjoys extensive and profound public opinion foundation. No matter how international and regional landscape and domestic situation in the two countries change, the Chinese side will firmly uphold a friendly policy towards Pakistan. The Chinese side is willing to support Pakistan as always in safeguarding its national sovereignty and development rights and interests, improving its relations with neighboring countries and playing a greater role in international and regional affairs. Standing as a landmark project of mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Pakistan, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will surely contribute to economic development and improvement of people’s livelihood of Pakistan and benefit all the Pakistani people. The Chinese side stands ready to, together with the Pakistani side, maintain high-level exchanges and expand exchanges and cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement and defense to constantly enrich the connotation of China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.

Sadiq Sanjrani expressed that Pakistan and China are iron brothers. The two countries have always firmly supported each other on issues concerning respective core interests. Pakistan-China relations have become a model of friendly coexistence between countries. Pakistan has held a successful general election, and is about to establish its new government. Developing friendship with China is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy and the consensus reached by all Pakistani parties. The new government of Pakistan will continue to firmly uphold a friendly policy towards China, advance the construction of the CPEC, and deepen Pakistan-China all-weather strategic cooperative partnership. The Pakistani side hopes to learn from China’s advanced experience in economic development, poverty alleviation, anti-corruption and other fields, and expects that the Chinese side will continue to support its economic and social development and play a positive role in helping Pakistan ease its external pressure and improve its relations with neighboring countries.
