|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK)|
On August 3, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea (ROK) on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meetings on East Asia Cooperation in Singapore.
Wang Yi expressed that at present, China and the ROK have enjoyed overall sound development with exchanges and cooperation in various fields being advanced normally. China appreciates that President Moon Jae-in follows the friendly policy towards China. China stands ready to, together with the ROK side, enhance communication and exchanges, well implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and properly deal with relevant sensitive issues, in a bid to push China-ROK relations for healthy, stable and forward-looking development.
Kang Kyung-wha noted that after the visit of President Moon Jae-in to China at the end of last year, relations between the two countries returned to the normal track, and friendly exchanges and cooperation between both countries in various fields were resumed and developed. The ROK side hopes to, together with the Chinese side, continue making efforts and strengthen exchanges between the two peoples to provide favorable conditions for improving and developing bilateral relations.
Both sides exchanged views on the situation of the Korean Peninsula, and believed that the recent hard-won situation of the Korean Peninsula moving towards relaxation is achieved by all parties with joint efforts, which should be cherished and should not be given up halfway. Both sides expressed that they support the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States (US) in continuing contact and dialogue, increasing mutual trust, earnestly implementing the consensus reached at the meeting in Singapore by the leaders of the DPRK and the US, and continuing making positive efforts to promote the denuclearization process as well as the realization of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
