Wang Yi: The Agreement of the Single Draft Negotiating Text of the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea Proves that China and the Countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Are Capable of Reaching Regional Rules Adhered to by All
2018-08-02

On August 2, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Singapore.

Wang Yi noted that Foreign Minister of Singapore just now announced that China and the ASEAN countries reached the agreement on the single draft negotiating text of the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea, which is another major progress of the COC negotiation. I believe that the COC negotiation will be pushed forward at a faster pace as long as we eliminate external interference. Facts will prove that China and the ASEAN countries are capable of maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea and reaching regional rules adhered to by all through negotiation.

Wang Yi said, I would also like to inform you that China has dispatched its most advanced marine rescue ship equipped with professional search-and-rescue teams to the Nansha Islands days ago, which will be ready to provide immediate maritime assistance for ships from all countries when necessary. China will continue to provide international public service such as scientific research and meteorology for the regional countries in the future.
