2018-07-30

On July 30, 2018, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met in Beijing with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt of the United Kingdom (UK).

Yang Jiechi noted that when President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Theresa May at the beginning of this year, the two sides expressed that the "Golden Era" of China-UK relations should be endowed with new cooperation connotation, which charted the course for the development of China-UK relations. We should well implement the important consensus reached by the leaders, deepen strategic communication, enhance political mutual trust, expand cooperation fields, and boost an open, inclusive, universally beneficial, balanced and win-win economic globalization, so as to inject more impetus into the further development of the relations between the two countries.

Jeremy Hunt expressed that UK-China relations have maintained a sound development momentum. The UK side stands ready to push for constant development of the "Golden Era" of UK-China relations. Under the current international situation, the UK side is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields and safeguard multilateralism and international order.
