Wang Yi Meets with Special Envoy of Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Daim Zainuddin

On July 18, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Special Envoy of Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chairman of the Council of Eminent Persons Tun Daim Zainuddin in Beijing.

Wang Yi expressed that China-Malaysia relations enjoy long-term friendly accumulation. The two countries are not only comprehensive strategic partners but also practical cooperation partners, who are capable of standing the test of any vicissitude. The two sides have both formed new governments recently and the bilateral relations are standing at a new historical starting point. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Malaysian side to enhance the integration of development strategies, deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, make bigger the increment of mutually beneficial cooperation and intensify coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs, so as to better benefit the two peoples and promote regional prosperity and development.

Tun Daim Zainuddin expressed that Malaysia and China enjoy time-honored friendly traditions, so do the two peoples. Attaching great importance to its relations with China, the new Malaysian government fully supports the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad knows about China and always actively develops relations with China. He looks forward to paying an official visit to China as soon as possible to discuss together the undertakings of the development of Malaysia-China relations with Chinese leaders.
