|Wang Yi: Hope the Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Iranian Nuclear Issue to Send Out a Clear Signal of Safeguarding and Implementing the JCPOA|
On July 5, 2018 local time, when jointly meeting the press with Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl of Austria in Vienna, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed at inquiry that the upcoming Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Iranian Nuclear Issue is very timely and necessary. It is believed that the meeting can definitely send out a clear signal of solidarity in safeguarding and implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Wang Yi said that the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue is currently facing the choice of where to go due to the unilaterally withdrawal of the United States. The JCPOA is an international multilateral agreement approved by the United Nations Security Council. All participants have an international obligation to abide by and implement the JCPOA. If this agreement is ultimately unsustainable, its impact will definitely not be limited to the Iranian nuclear issue itself, but also will have a serious negative impact on the operation of the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and the trend of the situation in the Middle East. Therefore, the Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Iranian Nuclear Issue to be held tomorrow is very timely and necessary. It is believed that the meeting can definitely send out a clear signal of solidarity in safeguarding and implementing the JCPOA.
Wang Yi said that under the current situation, all parties should firmly grasp the general direction of safeguarding multilateralism, firmly grasp the basic principle of advancing the settlement through political and diplomatic means and firmly grasp the fundamental goal of safeguarding global and regional peace and stability, so as to translate common political will into rational and effective responding measures. China is willing to work with the European Union to continue to make unremitting efforts to safeguard and implement the JCPOA.
