Wang Yi Holds Talks with President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajčák

On July 3, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with visiting President of the 72nd Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Miroslav Lajčák.

Wang Yi expressed that China firmly supports the important role the UN has played in safeguarding peace and promoting development, firmly supports the process of multilateralism, and staunchly safeguards the global system with the UN at the core. China highly appreciates the work Miroslav Lajčák has done since he took office as President of the UN General Assembly, and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with the UN, promote the settlement of regional hotspot issues through dialogue and negotiation and well deal with various global threats and challenges.

Miroslav Lajčák thanked China for its support for the UN work and multilateralism. The UN should play a greater role in coping with the current global challenges. China has put forward the initiative of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the Belt and Road Initiative, which will make important contributions to advancing global peace and development.

Both sides also exchanged views on the UN reform, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, regional hotspot issues and other topics.
