Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister of Bangladesh

On June 29, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali of Bangladesh.

Wang Yi expressed that President Xi Jinping visited Bangladesh in 2016, and the leaders of the two countries elevated China-Bangladesh relations to strategic cooperative partnership. China stands ready to, together with Bangladesh, focus on strategic communication, practical cooperation, security cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and international coordination, so as to inject new impetus into the development of bilateral strategic cooperative partnership.

Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali expressed that Bangladesh cherishes its friendly relations with China, and is committed to enhancing comprehensive cooperation with China. Bangladesh has been actively participating in the construction of the Belt and Road, and strengthening the alignment of development strategies of the two countries, in a bid to promote bilateral relations to constantly reach new stages.

Wang Yi noted that the early settlement of the displaced people fleeing from the Rakhine State conforms to the common interests of Bangladesh and Myanmar, which is not only conducive to providing a sound external environment for respective development, but also beneficial to maintaining regional security and stability. China supports Bangladesh and Myanmar in carrying out active consultation and launching the repatriation process as soon as possible, and is willing to continue to play a constructive role in this regard. Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali expressed that Bangladesh is willing to work with Myanmar to reinforce communication, and realize the goal of repatriating the displaced people as soon as possible.
