Yang Jiechi Meets with Minister of State Security Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba of South Africa

On the evening of June 28, 2018 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met with Minister of State Security Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba of South Africa before attending the 8th Meeting of the BRICS High Representatives for Security Issues in Durban, South Africa.

Yang Jiechi expressed that as a comprehensive strategic partner of South Africa, China is committed to developing the "comrades and brothers" type of special friendly relationship with South Africa. As this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of China-South Africa diplomatic relations, the development of bilateral relations is faced with new and important opportunities. President Xi Jinping will travel to South Africa to attend the 10th BRICS Summit in July, and the Chinese side is willing to fully support South Africa's work on hosting the summit and will promote it to achieve fruitful results. President Xi Jinping and President Cyril Ramaphosa will co-chair the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation this September. The summit will make a new plan for China-Africa comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. The Chinese side is willing to, together with South Africa, intensify cooperation and well make full preparation to ensure a complete success of these two major home-field diplomatic activities, so as to inject new strong impetus into the development of bilateral relations.

Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba expressed that South Africa and China are not only cooperation partners, but also as close as brothers. South Africa thanks China for providing precious support, and appreciates China's important role in African affairs. The country stands ready to take the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of South Africa-China diplomatic relations as an opportunity to review the development process of bilateral relations and deepen bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation. The maintenance of bilateral high-level contacts is of great significance. South Africa will do its best to ensure the complete success of the two major home-field diplomatic activities to promote BRICS cooperation as well as Africa-China cooperation to new levels.
