Wang Yi Meets with Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor U Kyaw Tint Swe of Myanmar

On June 28, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Minister for the Office of the State Counsellor U Kyaw Tint Swe of Myanmar.

Wang Yi expressed that under the strategic guidance of leaders of the two countries, China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperation has enjoyed in-depth development. China is willing to, together with Myanmar, maintain high-level contacts, expand exchanges, deepen cooperation, and promote the construction of China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, so as to benefit the two peoples.

Wang Yi noted that China supports Myanmar in pushing forward its domestic peace process, and stands ready to continue to play a role in promoting peace talks. Both sides should earnestly and well safeguard peace and stability in border areas. China also supports Myanmar and Bangladesh in properly solving the Rakhine State issue through friendly negotiations, and China will continue to provide necessary assistance in this regard.

U Kyaw Tint Swe expressed that Myanmar attaches great importance to its relations with China, and stands ready to work with China to strengthen strategic communication, deepen practical cooperation, and maintain stability in border areas. Myanmar thanks China for providing it with valuable assistance in promoting peace process and dealing with the situation of the Rakhine State, and expects that China will continue to provide strong support.
