President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker Meets with Wang Yi

On June 1, 2018 local time, President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker met in Brussels with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Jean-Claude Juncker asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to Chinese leaders. He expressed that as the international situation is undergoing complicated and profound changes, it is totally unacceptable to utilize unilateral sanctions in international affairs. Against this backdrop, the European Union (EU) and China strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership and jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade system, which not only conforms to the interests of the EU and China, but also accords with the interests of the world at large. The EU highly values its cooperation with China, and expects and believes that with the concerted efforts of both sides, the 20th EU-China Summit, which is to be held in China next month, will achieve a complete success.

Wang Yi conveyed warm greetings from Chinese leaders to Jean-Claude Juncker. Wang Yi expressed that the current international situation is full of uncertainties, and unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise. As two major stabilizing and responsible forces in the world, China and the EU should join hands to safeguard the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, improve and strengthen global governance, and advocate an open world economy. China stands ready to work with the EU to promote the 20th China-EU Summit to reach important consensus and achieve practical achievements, so as to send a positive signal to the outside world.
