2018-05-31

On May 31, 2018 local time, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany met at Bellevue Palace in Berlin with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Frank-Walter Steinmeier asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed that China and Germany are all-round strategic partners. The two countries share extensive common interests as well as enjoy a solid foundation for cooperation. Facing the complex and ever-changing international situation, both sides should deepen cooperation, jointly safeguard international peace and stability as well as promote world economic growth. Germany highly commends and will comprehensively participate in the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held in November, and believes that this move will send a strong signal of opposing trade protectionism to the outside world. Germany holds a positive attitude towards the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to, together with China, actively conduct bilateral and trilateral cooperation under this framework.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Wang Yi noted that not long ago, Chancellor Angela Merkel paid a successful visit to China. The leaders of the two countries reached new and important consensus on further deepening all-round strategic partnership and jointly dealing with global challenges. China stands ready to, together with Germany, implement consensus and promote bilateral relations to achieve new positive results. China welcomes Germany to participate in the first CIIE, and is willing to work with Germany and other parties to send the strong signal of safeguarding the multilateral trade system and building an open world economy to the outside world. China and Germany enjoy broad cooperation space under the framework of the "Belt and Road". China will abide by international rules, stick to openness and transparency, as well as be committed to promoting cooperation projects with high quality and high standard, in a bid to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results for various countries. China supports the European integration process, and stands ready to work with Germany to give play to the leading role of China-Germany relations to China-Europe relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on the situation of the Korean Peninsula, the Iranian nuclear issue and other international issues of common concern.

On the same day, Wang Yi also held talks with Foreign Minister Heiko Maas of Germany.
