Vice President Wang Qishan Visits Belarus

At the invitation of the Belarusian government, Vice President Wang Qishan visited Belarus from May 27 to 29. On May 29, 2018 local time, Wang Qishan held a meeting and talks respectively with President Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov in Minsk.

When meeting with Alexander Lukashenko, Wang Qishan first conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings and best wishes, and expressed that President Xi Jinping looks forward to Alexander Lukashenko's attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Qingdao Summit and their meeting again, so as to inject new and robust impetus into the development of China-Belarus relations.

Wang Qishan said that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to China-Belarus relations. In recent years, under the guidance of the two heads of state, bilateral relations have been running at a high level. The two countries have established the comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual trust and win-win cooperation, opening up broad prospects for cooperation in various areas. Both sides have constantly enhanced political mutual trust, shared the same or similar views on major international and regional issues, and firmly supported each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns. China respects the development path chosen by the Belarusian side based on its national conditions, and is glad to see the remarkable achievements made by Belarus in political stability and economic and social development under the wise leadership of President Alexander Lukashenko. The Chinese side supports Belarus in playing an important role in the aspect of boosting regional security and stability.

Wang Qishan expressed that with joint efforts of both sides, bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation has been constantly expanded and deepened, covering various areas such as economy, security, and people-to-people and cultural engagement, and achieving abundant outcomes at various levels such as the central, local and non-governmental levels. The connotation of the comprehensive strategic partnership has been increasingly enriched. Both sides should continue deepening political mutual trust, and join hands to build a community with a shared future. The two countries should promote deep integration of interests, and reinforce the alignment of economic development strategies and plans, so as to achieve common development and prosperity. As a key project personally promoted by the two heads of state, the China-Belarus Industrial Park has made positive progress at present. Both sides should strive to build it into a landmark project of the "Belt and Road" cooperation. China welcomes Belarus to participate in the first China International Import Expo to be held in Shanghai this year.

Wang Qishan said that China appreciates and will continue to support the constructive role Belarus has played as an observer state of the SCO in promoting the development of the SCO.

Alexander Lukashenko asked Wang Qishan to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping, and looked forward to attending the SCO Qingdao Summit and holding a meeting with President Xi Jinping. He noted that Belarus and China have enjoyed long-term friendship, mutual trust, and equal treatment. Belarus is a strategic partner that China could completely trust. Belarus fully agrees with and supports the proposition of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, stands ready to actively integrate the development strategies of the two countries, as well as build Belarus-China Industrial Park into a shining pearl of the Silk Road Economic Belt. Belarus is making careful preparations for its participation in the first China International Import Expo, and stands ready to continuously enhance cooperation with China within the SCO framework.

When holding talks with Andrei Kobyakov, Wang Qishan conveyed Premier Li Keqiang's warm greetings and best wishes. He expressed that practical cooperation is the ballast stone of China-Belarus relations. During the "Belt and Road" construction, bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields have been constantly deepened with fruitful results. Both sides should continue well implementing the consensus reached by the two heads of state, give full play to the role of mechanisms including intergovernmental cooperation committee, and make overall plans for priorities and major areas. Both sides should expand the scale of bilateral trade, promote the balanced development of trade, steadily advance the construction of major projects, and give play to demonstration and radiation effects. Both sides should promote cooperation in investment and finance, and gradually realize the investment-led and innovation-driven development. Both sides should expand people-to-people and cultural exchanges and regional exchanges, so as to deepen understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

Andrei Kobyakov asked Wang Qishan to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to Premier Li Keqiang. He noted that Belarus and China share great cooperation potential in economy and trade. Belarus is committed to deepening bilateral practical cooperation, as well as agrees to elevate the level of trade between the two countries, optimize trade structure, and provide convenient conditions for Chinese enterprises to invest in Belarus.

Prior to the talks, Andrei Kobyakov held a grand welcoming ceremony for Wang Qishan. During the visit, Wang Qishan also laid a wreath at the Victory Monument of Belarus.
