On May 28, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed at a briefing held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Chinese and foreign media that over the past one year since China has assumed the rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), China has, with the starting point of carrying forward the Shanghai Spirit, tapping into the potential from member expansion, promoting unity and cooperation and jointly seeking stable development, successfully held a series of important mechanism meetings under the strong support of all parties, including the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Meeting of Defence Ministers, the Meeting of National Security Council Secretaries, the Meeting of Supreme Court Chief Justices, and the Meeting of Ministers of Culture of the SCO Member States. And China has also succeeded in holding over 160 large-scale multilateral activities, such as the cultural and art festival, the youth exchange camp, People's Forum, Political Parties Forum, and Women's Forum of the SCO member states. Throughout the whole year, the work undertaken by China as the presidency has achieved expected goals and received unanimous acclaim with distinct themes and highlighted mainlines. China has held various content-rich activities in flexible and novel forms that enjoy broad participation. As a result, political mutual trust among all parties has been raised to a new level, and new progress has been achieved in security coordination, and new breakthrough has been made in practical cooperation, as well as fresh outcomes have been yielded in people-to-people and cultural exchanges, laying a solid foundation and making full preparation for the Qingdao Summit.
