Wang Yi Responds to the US's Disinvitation of China from Participating in the RIMPAC: It Is Unconstructive
2018-05-24

On May 23, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who made a stop-over in Washington, D.C. on his way back from Argentina, held a meeting with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of the United States (US). Both sides jointly met the press after their talks.

A US journalist asked about Wang Yi's views on the US Department of Defense's disinvitation of the People's Liberation Army of China from participating in the 2018 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC). Wang Yi expressed that this decision of the US is unconstructive and rash, and not conducive to enhancing mutual understanding and mutual trust between China and the US. The US side should abandon such negative mentality. Both China and the US are major countries in the world, and the two sides can undoubtedly carry out cooperation and establish mutual trust with respect to maritime security issues, which is conducive to jointly making contributions to promoting world peace and stability.
