|Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano of Italy|
On May 21, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano of Italy on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Buenos Aires.
Wang Yi expressed that both China and Italy are ancient civilizations that were closely connected by the Silk Road in history. The joint construction of the "Belt and Road" by both countries in the 21st century will inject new impetus into and open up new prospects for the development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side appreciates Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni for his attendance at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China last year as well as his active contributions to the success of the Forum. It is hoped that both sides will seize opportunities to carry out mutually beneficial cooperation under the "Belt and Road" framework in a more active manner, and join hands in exploring the third-party market cooperation, so as to explore new potential and space for bilateral relations.
Angelino Alfano expressed that Italy-China relations enjoy robust development with close bilateral high-level exchanges. The two countries have historical and geographical advantages in conducting the "Belt and Road" cooperation. The Italian side is willing to, on the basis of previous sound cooperation, participate in the "Belt and Road" cooperation in a more active manner at bilateral level and in the European Union.
