King Felipe VI of Spain Meets with Wang Yi

On May 17, 2018 local time, King Felipe VI of Spain met at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Felipe VI asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping and once again congratulated President Xi Jinping on his election by a unanimous vote. Felipe VI happily recalled the scene of the meeting with President Xi Jinping in Astana last June. He expressed that the current international situation and the European situation are undergoing profound changes. China has played an increasingly important role in the world. President Xi Jinping's foresight and sagacity on state governance and global governance is not only conducive to China, but also to the whole world. He is eagerly looking forward to President Xi Jinping's visit to Spain. The Spanish side will spare no effort to ensure a complete success of the visit and make it a milestone in the development history of Spain-China relations. The "Belt and Road" initiative is of great significance to the common development and prosperity of the region and the world at large. Spain will participate in the "Belt and Road" construction in a more active manner, tap into potential for cooperation between the two countries in such fields as trade, tourism, culture and education, and expand the third-party market cooperation in Latin America, Africa and other regions at the same time. The Spanish side hopes to strengthen communication and cooperation with China in international and regional affairs, so as to make active efforts for world peace and stability.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to Felipe VI. Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese side highly appreciates that the Spanish royal family has always been committed to the development of China-Spain relations and made active efforts to promote mutual understanding between the two peoples over the years. The current international situation is full of uncertain factors. As the important representatives of the Eastern and Western civilizations, China and Spain should strengthen communication and coordination, and inject more positive energy into the promotion of world peace and prosperity. In the face of the current huge changes that have never been seen in the past hundred years, President Xi Jinping proposed the concept of the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and the construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative. Spain enjoys historical and regional advantages in participating in the "Belt and Road" cooperation. China is willing to integrate the "Belt and Road" with Spain's development strategies, exploit new cooperation space, tap into new cooperation potential, constantly deepen exchanges and cooperation in such areas as culture, education, tourism, sports, finance, telecommunications and renewable energy, and actively exploit third-party markets in Latin America and Africa. China stands ready to take the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to meticulously design and well prepare for high-level mutual visits between both countries, in a bid to elevate China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership to new highs.
