|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of France Philippe Etienne|
On May 16, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at the Élysée Palace in Paris with Foreign Policy Advisor to the President of France Philippe Etienne.
Wang Yi expressed that President Emmanuel Macron paid a successful visit to China in January this year. President Xi Jinping and President Emmanuel Macron conducted in-depth communication for a long time, which has increased mutual understanding and trust and charted the course for the development of China-France relations in the new era. Both sides should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, maintain high-level exchanges, promote cooperation in major projects between the two countries, and actively discuss the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields under the “Belt and Road” framework.
Philippe Etienne noted that France is gratified with the successful visit of President Emmanuel Macron to China, and stands ready to, together with China, make joint efforts, well implement various outcomes of this visit, further promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, and enhance communication and cooperation in major issues including climate change.
Both sides mainly exchanged in-depth views on issues including the current situation of the Korean Peninsula, the Iranian nuclear issue, and the Palestine-Israel situation. Both sides expressed that China and France, as comprehensive strategic partners and permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, are ready to strengthen strategic communication and coordination on the current major international and regional hotspot issues, safeguard multilateralism, and push forward the peaceful settlement of regional hotspot issues through political means, in a bid to provide more positive energy for the current international situation which is full of uncertainties and instabilities.
On the same day, Wang Yi also met with President of the Constitutional Council Laurent Fabius of France.
