President Emmanuel Macron of France Meets with Wang Yi

On May 16, 2018 local time, President Emmanuel Macron of France met at the Élysée Palace in Paris with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Emmanuel Macron asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Emmanuel Macron said that his visit to China this January was very successful and pleasant. He reached important consensus with President Xi Jinping on further developing France-China relations. It is hoped that both countries will effectively make and implement relevant plans, intensify high-level mutual visits, strengthen cooperation in such fields as economy and trade, science and technology and culture, as well as actively discuss the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”. France appreciates China’s important role in and important contributions to reaching the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, pushing for the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and other major international and regional affairs, and hopes to, together with China, further intensify strategic communication and coordination, safeguard multilateralism as well as give play to the guiding role of France-China comprehensive strategic partnership. It is of important significance under the complex international situation at present.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping’s warm greetings to Emmanuel Macron. Wang Yi expressed that Mr. President successfully paid a state visit to China this January, during which President Xi Jinping and you jointly made comprehensive planning for the development of China-France relations in the new era. My visit this time aims to push for the implementation of various consensus reached by the two heads of state. China is willing to work with France to further intensify high-level exchanges between the two countries and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. It is believed that France would become an important strategic partner of China in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”. China places importance on France’s position as a major country and praises France for pursuing an independent foreign policy. Under the current international situation, China is willing to join hands with France to promote multilateralism, safeguard the global system and principles of international relations, and jointly utter positive voice on maintaining world peace and stability.
