President U Htin Kyaw of Myanmar Meets with Wang Yi

On November 19, 2017 local time, President U Htin Kyaw of Myanmar met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Presidential Palace.

U Htin Kyaw asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping and warmly congratulated on President Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the 19th CPC National Congress. U Htin Kyaw expressed that the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping has vigorously advanced international cooperation and promoted the common development of various countries. Myanmar stands ready to, together with China, speed up the process of the joint construction of the Belt and Road. The country appreciates the proposal of building the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor, and stands ready to actively integrate with China to this end. Myanmar hopes that China could continue providing support and assistance for the country's domestic peace process, appreciates China's stance on the Rakhine State issue, and is ready to push forward the settlement of this issue through friendly consultation with Bangladesh in accordance with China's three-phase solution, so as to realize peace and stability, and promote regional development.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to U Htin Kyaw, and expressed that China and Myanmar are friendly close neighbors. The two countries had established "Paukphaw" friendship in the last century, and became comprehensive strategic cooperative partners in the new century. In the future the two countries will build a community of common destiny. Considering Myanmar as an important cooperative partner in the joint construction of the Belt and Road, China is willing to, together with Myanmar, discuss the building of China-Myanmar Economic Corridor to promote the common development of both countries in light of Myanmar's national development plan and actual requirements. The Chinese side believes that the Myanmar government has the wisdom and ability to advance its domestic peace process, and is willing to continue providing assistance for Myanmar to this end based on Myanmar's needs. I am on a shuttle visit to Bangladesh and Myanmar these two days. On the basis of comprehensively considering the demands of both sides, I proposed a 3-phase solution, which gained active responses from the two countries directly concerned. As a common friend of Myanmar and Bangladesh, China is willing to continue playing a constructive role in properly and well handling the Rakhine State issue.

On the same day, Wang Yi also met with Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar and held talks with State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw.
