Wang Yi Meets with Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar
2017-11-20

On November 19, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Commander-in-Chief of Defense Services Min Aung Hlaing of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw.

Wang Yi expressed that linked by mountains and rives, and sharing common destiny, China and Myanmar have always understood and supported each other. I was instructed to visit Myanmar soon after the successful convening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which aims to send out the positive message that the Chinese side puts the development of its relations with Myanmar on the priority of its diplomacy. The Myanmar army plays an important role in the process of the country's national development and stability, and has always been a firm force in promoting China-Myanmar friendship. Bilateral military relations have gone through the tests of time, wind and rain, becoming an indispensable and important part of China-Myanmar relations. It is hoped that the Myanmar army could become a new force in the new era in pushing forward China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership for constant and in-depth development. With complicated background, the Rakhine State issue requires to address both the symptoms and the root causes step by step. It is hoped that the three-phase solution put forward by China could be conducive to advancing the proper settlement of the issue.

Min Aung Hlaing expressed that as Myanmar's friendly neighbor and most sincere friend, China has always provided strong support and assistance for Myanmar to maintain peace and stability and promote economic development for a long time. The Myanmar army stands ready to inherit the friendly tradition of bilateral military exchanges, and play a positive role in pushing Myanmar-China friendship to usher in a new era. Myanmar appreciates China's stance on the Rakhine State issue, thanks Foreign Minister for his shuttle mediation between Myanmar and Bangladesh, and agrees with China's three-phase solution. The Myanmar army stands ready to make unremitting efforts to properly resolve the issue at an early date.
