|Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan|
On November 11, 2017 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Japan are close neighbors and major economies in Asia and the world. Stable development of China-Japan relations conforms to the interests of both sides and has an important influence on the region and the world. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, and next year will usher in the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship. The two sides should bear in the mind the fundamental interests of the two peoples, correctly grasp the general direction of peace, friendship and cooperation, and promote bilateral relations for constant improvement and forward-looking development through unremitting efforts and accumulation of favorable conditions.
Xi Jinping stressed that to improve China-Japan relations, the key is mutual trust. He hoped the Japanese side should take more practical actions and adopt more specific policies to reflect the strategic consensus, which reaffirms that China and Japan are cooperation partners that pose no threat to each other. On history, Taiwan and other major issues of principle concerning the political foundation of China-Japan relations, the Japanese side should always act in light of the four political documents and the consensus reached by the two sides. The differences between the two countries should be properly controlled in a constructive way.
Xi Jinping pointed out that mutually beneficial cooperation is the momentum to drive the China-Japan relations forward. The two sides should improve the level of practical cooperation, actively promote regional economic integration, and push cooperation within the framework of the "Belt and Road" for implementation at an early date in the new situation. The two sides should continue to increase exchanges on culture, media, youths and other areas, strengthen the public opinion bond for the development of bilateral relations and carry out cooperation in Olympic by making use of the opportunity that China and Japan will successively host the Olympic Games.
Shinzo Abe expressed his congratulations on the successful convening of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and on Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. The Japanese side is willing to work with China to push for the development of the strategic mutually-beneficial relationship between the two countries by taking the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship in 2018. Japan hopes to increase high-level exchanges with China, carry out economic and trade cooperation with mutually beneficial win-win outcomes, and actively explore cooperation in connectivity and within the framework of the "Belt and Road", as well as deepen exchanges on tourism, culture, youths and other fields. China will host the Winter Olympic Games in 2022 and Japan will host the Summer Olympics in 2020. The Japanese side stands ready to carry out communication and cooperation with China to this end.
