Xi Jinping and President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka Exchange Congratulatory Messages on the 60th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between China and Sri Lanka

On February 7, 2017, President Xi Jinping and President Maithripala Sirisena of Sri Lanka exchanged congratulatory messages, warmly congratulating on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

Xi Jinping pointed out in the congratulatory message that since China and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations 60 years ago, bilateral relations have stood the test of international vicissitudes and maintained a healthy development momentum. I attach high importance to the development of China-Sri Lanka relations and appreciate Sri Lanka for its active participation in the "Belt and Road" initiative. I am willing to work with you to consolidate political mutual trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and deepen people-to-people friendship, so as to let China-Sri Lanka strategic cooperative partnership featuring sincerity, mutual assistance and long-lasting friendship shine with new vigor and vitality.

Maithripala Sirisena expressed in the congratulatory message that the friendship between Sri Lanka and China has a long history. Since the two countries established diplomatic relations 60 years ago, bilateral relations have gained constant and healthy development, and are later upgraded to a strategic cooperative partnership. Sri Lanka is firmly dedicated to strengthening its relations with China. It is believed that on the basis of the Ancient Maritime Silk Road, the "Belt and Road" initiative will open up a new era for Sri Lanka-China cooperation. He wished bilateral relations for constant development.
