Wang Yi Meets with Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdymukhamedov

On July 13, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Turkmen President of China-Turkmenistan Cooperation Committee Serdar Berdymukhamedov in Ashgabat.

Wang Yi said, under the leadership of the two heads of state in person, the strategic partnership between China and Turkmenistan has maintained a sound and stable development momentum. The China-Turkmenistan Cooperation Committee is the most important mechanism for coordination of cooperation between the two countries in various fields. China is willing to work with Turkmenistan to further strengthen the mechanism of the Cooperation Committee and prepare for the fifth meeting to be held within the year. He hopes that the two sides will sign documents on aligning the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative with Turkmenistan's development strategy to revive the Great Silk Road, draw up a cooperation plan for the next five years, promote substantive progress in natural gas cooperation talks as soon as possible, expand cooperation in non-natural resources sectors, and reach an early agreement on economic cooperation in important fields, so as to send a positive signal that China and Turkmenistan will engage in long-term and stable strategic cooperation. China will continue to provide Turkmenistan with vaccines, and is willing to step up cooperation with Turkmenistan in the health sector and help Turkmenistan fight the pandemic. The two sides should also reach an agreement on the mutual establishment of cultural centers as soon as practicable.

Serdar Berdymukhamedov extended warm congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and highly lauded the splendid achievements made by China under the leadership of the CPC. Serdar said, the Turkmen side attaches great importance to the continuous strengthening of its strategic partnership with China based on the principle of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. Under the guidance and promotion of the two heads of state, both sides have maintained a high level of cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, people-to-people and culture. Turkmenistan thanked China for providing it with vaccines, and hopes that the role of the Turkmenistan-China Cooperation Committee will be brought into full play to promote more fruitful cooperation between the two sides in the fields of economy, trade, education, culture, science, health and medical care to the best of its ability.
