Spokesman on the Chinese Stand on the Issue of Yasukuni Shrine
2003-06-23 00:00

Q: It is reported that the Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizimi said that his visit to the Yasukuni Shrine will not be an obstacle to the development of  Sino-Japanese relations. What`s  the  comment of the Chinese side ?

A: The Chinese stand on the issue of Yasukuni Shrine is clear and consistent. Only when the issue of history is acknowledged correctly ,  can Sino-Japanese relations develop healthily and steadily. This year  marks the 25th anniversary of the Sino- Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship. The two sides should take more action to promote bilateral friendship instead of  contrary.
