Premier Wen Jiabao Meets Comoros President
2003-06-19 00:00

On June 19, 2003, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with visiting President Azali Assoumani of the Union of Comoros in Zhongnanhai.

Wen said that although the distance between China and Comoros was far and the natural environment, history, cultural background and social system differed, bilateral relations still developed smoothly. The most vital reason was that the two countries respected each other and treated each other on an equal footing, and dealt with bilateral relations with foresight. Wen positively appraised fruitful cooperation achieved in all areas between the two countries in recent years and praised the Comoros government for its long-term adherence to the One China policy. He went on to say that the new Chinese government was willing to make joint efforts with the Comoros government in order to keep promoting bilateral friendly cooperative relations. Wen also briefed the guests on China's economic development.

Azali said his country's friendly relations with China were a fine example of cooperation among developing nations. It was the strong consensus of the Comoros government and people to further strengthen their friendly relations and partnership with China. He hoped the two nations could further explore cooperation in infrastructure construction and welcomed more Chinese entrepreneurs to invest and run factories in Comoros so that the people of the two countries could benefit from the friendly cooperation.
