Foreign Ministry Spokesperson on India Restoring the Ambassadorial-level Diplomatic Ties and Civil Aviation with Pakistan

Q: On May 2nd, Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee announced that India is going to restore the ambassadorial-level diplomatic ties and civil aviation with Pakistan. He also promised to further improve their relations. Pakistan expressed welcome to India's announcement. What is China’s comment on this?

A: Recently, India and Pakistan have both expressed their willingness to take concrete measures to improve bilateral ties. We are glad to see this and believe the measures will create favorable atmosphere and conditions for the resumption of dialogue between the two countries. India and Pakistan are both friendly neighbors of China and We sincerely hope that the two nations will resolve their disputes peacefully through dialogues and jointly contribute to peace, stability and development in the South Asian region.
