Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Met With Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen At Bankok
2003-04-30 00:00

On the morning of April 29, 2003, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at Bankok, Thailand.

Wen said the special conference on SARS between ASEAN and Chinese leaders, which is aimed at finding ways of containing the disease, is timely and necessary as SARS has spread around the world. China supports Cambodia presiding over the conference as the chair of ASEAN. He believed the meeting would fully demonstrate the determination of China and ASEAN in their efforts to strengthen cooperation and work out effective cooperative means to fight the disease.

Wen said China and Cambodia enjoy a long history of friendship. King Sihanouk has forged friendship with Chinese leaders of three generations. Both Cambodia and China are developing countries, facing common target and task. China supports Cambodia's choice of road to development based on its national conditions, and is still willing to offer help within capacity to Cambodia’s economic construction.

Hun Sen said the Cambodian people are glad to see the rapid development of ties between the two countries. The Cambodian government wholeheartedly thanks China for her selfless help and support in these years. At the crucial time when SARS breaks out in some Asian countries and regions, Wen's rapid acceptance of the initiative and participation in the special conference shows that the Chinese government attaches great importance to cooperation with ASEAN, and also shows the Asian people are closely linked. He believed the special conference will be a success, and China and ASEAN will have a closer relationship.
