On April 5, 2003, Vice Foreign Minister Yang
Wenchang met with President Francois Bozize, Prime Minister
Abel Goumba and Foreign Minister Karim Meckassoua
respectively, and exchanged opinions on bilateral ties with
them. Yang reiterated that China had always adhered to the
policy of non-interference into the domestic affairs of
other countries and respected the political choices of other
peoples. China is willing to further develop friendly
cooperation in various fields with the new government of the
Central African Republic on the basis of the Five Principles
of Peaceful Coexistence. He noted that the Chinese
government supported the new government's efforts of keeping
its national stability, promoting economic and social
development. The Central African side expressed its
willingness to maintain and develop friendly cooperative
relations with China and reiterated its One China policy,
and its non-involvement of contacts of official nature with
the Taiwan authority.
On March 15,
2003, the armed forces led by President Bozize of the
Central African Republic captured the capital of Central
Africa, Bangui, after which a transitional government was
organized. At present, the situation in the Central African
Republic is becoming stable. During the regime alternation,
there were riots in Bangui and some Chinese businesses and
people resident there had suffered from asset damage. Yang
went to Bangui to express sympathy to the personnel of the
Chinese Embassy, the Chinese agencies and Chinese resident
in that country.
