On February 25, 2003, Premier Zhu Rongji met with
visiting Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin in a friendly
atmosphere at Zhongnanhai.
Zhu expressed his
welcome to Voronin for this visit and his appreciation for
Voronin's contribution to promoting friendship and bilateral
relations between China and Moldova.
Zhu said
China attached great importance to friendly ties with
Moldova, adding that President Jiang Zemin's visit to
Moldova in 2001 had set the course for the development of
cooperation between the two countries. Zhu also noted that
Voronin had friendly and down-to-earth talks with President
Jiang during his current visit, and a Sino-Moldavian joint
communiqué was signed following the talks. Zhu said
China would actively act on the consensus reached between
the two nation's heads and continue to promote
Sino-Moldavian trade and economic cooperation in line with
the spirit of the communiqué, so as to match the good
political ties between the two countries and lay a more
solid material foundation for consolidating and developing
bilateral political ties. Zhu expressed his wish that the
two governments and departments of both sides in charge of
economy take substantial measures to bring the macro
guidance into full play, strengthen information exchanges,
in order to create a more favorable environment for both
Chinese and Moldavian companies and enterprises to build
closer direct links for their mutual benefit, thoroughly tap
the potentials of cooperation in bilateral and multilateral
fields while exploring new ways of cooperation and create a
mutual beneficial and win-win situation in bilateral trade
and economic cooperation.
Zhu
appreciated Moldova's adherence to the One China policy and
its firm support for China's reunification. He believed
Sino-Moldavian relations would continue to get overall
development under the direct care of leaders of both
countries.
Voronin said he was delighted to
meet Zhu. He said the facts had proved that every meeting
between the two nations' leaders promoted bilateral ties
actively.
Voronin spoke highly of the
friendship between Moldova and China. He said bilateral ties
had developed rapidly despite the remote distance between
Moldova and China. Moldova will regard China as an
all-dimensional friend and a friendly strategic
partner.
Voronin also said that Moldova
attached much importance to learning from China's successful
experience in economic and social development, hoping to
further cooperation with China in the political, economic
and social fields to promote an overall development of
Moldova-China ties. Voronin expressed the wish that the two
governments and enterprises would strengthen their exchanges
and enhance mutual understanding to expand trade and
economic cooperation and establish Moldova-China joint
ventures. He said Moldova also hoped to obtain
China's help in the fields of environmental protection,
agriculture, and establishing special economic zones, adding
that Chinese experts and entrepreneurs could advise on and
even take part in Moldova's economic development. Voronin
believed trade and economic relations would
deliver even greater fruits and make benefit for
both peoples with the joint efforts of the two nations.
