Premier Zhu Rongji Meets With Moldavian President Voronin

On February 25, 2003, Premier Zhu Rongji met with visiting Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin in a friendly atmosphere at Zhongnanhai.

Zhu expressed his welcome to Voronin for this visit and his appreciation for Voronin's contribution to promoting friendship and bilateral relations between China and Moldova.

Zhu said China attached great importance to friendly ties with Moldova, adding that President Jiang Zemin's visit to Moldova in 2001 had set the course for the development of cooperation between the two countries. Zhu also noted that Voronin had friendly and down-to-earth talks with President Jiang during his current visit, and a Sino-Moldavian joint communiqué was signed following the talks. Zhu said China would actively act on the consensus reached between the two nation's heads and continue to promote Sino-Moldavian trade and economic cooperation in line with the spirit of the communiqué, so as to match the good political ties between the two countries and lay a more solid material foundation for consolidating and developing bilateral political ties. Zhu expressed his wish that the two governments and departments of both sides in charge of economy take substantial measures to bring the macro guidance into full play, strengthen information exchanges, in order to create a more favorable environment for both Chinese and Moldavian companies and enterprises to build closer direct links for their mutual benefit, thoroughly tap the potentials of cooperation in bilateral and multilateral fields while exploring new ways of cooperation and create a mutual beneficial and win-win situation in bilateral trade and economic cooperation.  

Zhu appreciated Moldova's adherence to the One China policy and its firm support for China's reunification. He believed Sino-Moldavian relations would continue to get overall development under the direct care of leaders of both countries.

Voronin said he was delighted to meet Zhu. He said the facts had proved that every meeting between the two nations' leaders promoted bilateral ties actively.

Voronin spoke highly of the friendship between Moldova and China. He said bilateral ties had developed rapidly despite the remote distance between Moldova and China. Moldova will regard China as an all-dimensional friend and a friendly strategic partner.

Voronin also said that Moldova attached much importance to learning from China's successful experience in economic and social development, hoping to further cooperation with China in the political, economic and social fields to promote an overall development of Moldova-China ties. Voronin expressed the wish that the two governments and enterprises would strengthen their exchanges and enhance mutual understanding to expand trade and economic cooperation and establish Moldova-China joint ventures.  He said Moldova also hoped to obtain China's help in the fields of environmental protection, agriculture, and establishing special economic zones, adding that Chinese experts and entrepreneurs could advise on and even take part in Moldova's economic development. Voronin believed trade and economic relations would  deliver even greater fruits and make benefit for both peoples with the joint efforts of the two nations.
