A: China extends warm congratulations on the 40th anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN.

In the past 40 years, the ASEAN has made a series of prominent achievements in promoting the economic growth of member states and the integration process as well as improving the overall strength. In the meantime, the ASEAN has made significant contributions to peace, stability, development and prosperity of the region. China feels happy about that.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the ASEAN, Premier Wen Jiabao will send a message of congratulations to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore which is the rotating presidency of the ASEAN. Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will attend the celebration reception held by the diplomatic corps of the ASEAN in China at invitation. China will also hold a series of celebration events.

The ASEAN is the good neighbour, friend and partner of China. The two sides have deepened and expanded cooperation in the fields of politics, economy and social culture and maintained mutual support and close coordination on international issues. China will as always support the ASEAN integration process and the leading role of the ASEAN in regional cooperation and further push forward the bilateral strategic partnership.
