2004-10-14 00:00

At 4 pm, October 14th , Beijing time, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan received a report from the Pakistani side that in the rescue efforts of two abducted Chinese engineers, one engineer was rescued, the other one unfortunately died and all the five abductors were shot dead.

The spokeswoman expressed profound condolence to the dead and sincere solicitude to his relatives. The Chinese Government strongly condemned this terrorist act to abduct Chinese citizens.

Since the outbreak of the abduction on October, 9th , President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao and other state and Party leaders attached great attention and expressed great concern for the safety of kidnapped engineers. The Chinese Foreign Ministry and other government departments concerned as well as Chinese Embassy in Pakistan made utmost efforts to save our abducted engineers. They kept close contact with the Pakistani side, adopted a series of measures including dispatching task forces. We have noted the great efforts the Pakistani Government and their leaders made. The Chinese side will continue to work with the Pakistani side to properly handle follow-up issues and take further effective measures to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel in Pakistan.
